Book excerpt/synopsis : For twelve-year-old Eric Johnson, leaving Philadelphia to live with his Uncle Al and Aunt Cindy in the country, after the accident that took his parents lives, was hard enough. Yet tragedies past seem to pale in the wake of becoming involved in a war of mythic pro-portions between the Norse gods of the Aesir and the Frost Giants, competing for domination of Midgard (Earth) and Asgard (realm of the Aesir). Eric befriends the mighty Thor, his father Odin, and brother Loki, along with the industrious Rock Dwarves and the Valkyrie to save his uncle, his friends, and ultimately the planet and realms beyond. This is a classic adventure, seen through a young boy's eyes as he learns to accept responsibility and grow into a man. Adults and young readers alike will enjoy this truly heroic tale. "The action's divine, the plot mischievously intricate, and the characters of epic proportion (literally and figuratively). Tossed into the sea of chaos is a likable young hero who manages to survive the twists of fate." Virginia G. McMorrow Author, Mage Confusion "Superb! This can only be the beginning of the adventures of Eric and Thor. I can't wait to see what challenges they face next." P.M. Griffin Author, The STAR COMMANDOS Series

Book excerpt/synopsis : Growing Up : A Story of the Girlhood of Judith Mackenzie “I was not sure whether it were to write a book, or to teach, or to go as a foreign missionary; I think I hoped it would be the foreign missionary, because that was the most self-sacrificing. The book was all one great joy. The teaching was absorbing, but I must go away to study. I was afraid to go away, I did not like to go away from Bensalem, I would miss my mother away from Bensalem, and you, and all the parsonage, and the whole village. But I thought I was called; as called as Roger was to preach, or any woman, saint, or heroine, who had done a great thing. You cannot think what it was to me. It made me old. I wanted God to speak out of Heaven and tell me what to do. It began to lose its selfishness, after that. The first thing that began to shake my confidence was something Mrs. Lane said that afternoon she talked to Jean and me about what women were doing and could do. She did not make woman’s work attractive; she took the heart out of me. I did not know why she should do that. I knew better all the time. I knew what women had done and were doing. I knew she was doing a noble work, literary work, work in prisons, temperance work; the instances she gave me seemed trivial, as if she were laughing at me. But something opened my eyes; I felt that I might be disobedient to my heavenly vision, that I was looking up into the heavens for my call, and the voice might be all the time in my ear. That was the night I came back here and found you so cozy and satisfied under your own roof-tree, with the voice in your ear, and the work in your hand. The world went away from me. I stayed. I am glad I stayed. My only trouble is, and it is a real trouble, that God did not care for my purpose, or my prayers; that he has let them go as if they never entered into his mind; I thought they were in his heart as well as mine.”

Book excerpt/synopsis : "Growing Up" by Nathaniel Mrs. Conklin is a novel about the girlhood of Judith Mackenzie. Excerpt: "Judith's mother sat in her invalid chair before the grate; she looked very pretty to Judith with her hair curling back from her face, and the color of her eyes and cheeks brought out by the becoming wrapper; the firelight shone upon the mother; the fading light in the west shone upon the girl in the bay-window, the yellow head, the blue shoulders bent over the letter she was writing. "Judith, come and tell me pictures." About five o'clock in the afternoon, her mother's weariest-time, Judith often told her mother pictures."

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt/synopsis : Chapter 3 The First Judgment: The World Prior To Adam There may have been many judgments upon the earth since its beginning millions or billions of years ago; however, the present commentary will deal only with the last tens of thousands of years of earth’s existence. In Genesis 1:2, the verses written by Moses (as author of the Genesis account) portray an earth that was veiled in darkness so that its form could not be discerned. The earth at that time was covered with water (ice) high above the mountain tops so that it gave the appearance of being a dark revolving sphere of frozen water (Table-2). God’s spirit is described as hovering over this revolving ball of water and brooding over the sad condition of this dark, void planet. God did not create a dark and dismal planet at the beginning, because God does not create darkness; in fact, darkness is incompatible with His existence and presence. So what had happened that God viewed (Gen. 1:2) such a decrepit state of the world? Does scripture attempt to explain this phenomenon, or does the inspired word of God remain silent on this issue? It was first proposed as a theory by the Scotsman Thomas Chalmers in the early 19th century that a “gap” in time existed between Genesis 1:1 and Genesis 1:2. This gap-in-time would encompass a “ruin-reconstruction theme” and the existence of pre-Adamic living beings. Obviously, a huge catastrophic event would have had to occur to produce this decadent state of the world. The “gap concept” was later popularized by mention in the margin notes of the Scofield Reference Bible.
