This book was released on 2018-09-30 with total page 446 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt/synopsis : Deception is omnipresent throughout the evolution of life, inseparable from the development of various modes of communication. By effectively manipulating the behavior of others, apparently by taking advantage of recipients’ own rules, communicators are able to gain an advantage while negotiating meaning in a cross-cultural environment. Even though much research related to deceptive behavior and its detection has been conducted in recent years, little of it has concentrated on deception outside of a North American context. This monograph addresses that lacuna. Consistently, most research on deception has examined face-to-face verbal communication and ignored computer-mediated communication. In response, this book also provides detailed insights into how computer-mediated communication and adopted cultural values affect deceptive communication and deception detection across cultures, namely in Poland and the USA. It focuses on discussing theories about why cues to deception exist, theories specific to verbal cues to deception, and theories about computer mediation in communication. The book also proposes a research model postulating relationships between computer-mediated communication media, cue detection, media familiarity, national culture, espoused cultural values, veracity judgment success, and deceptive communicative behavior.

Book excerpt/synopsis : After Bhishma is cut down at the end of the previous book of the Maha·bhárata, the book which bears his name, Duryódhana selects Drona as leader of his forces. Drona accepts the honor with Bhishma's blessing, despite his ongoing personal conflicts as mentor to both the Pándava and Káurava heroes in their youth. The fighting rages on, with heavy losses on both sides. Furious and frustrated, Duryódhana accuses Drona of collaborating with the enemy, but he replies that as long as Árjuna is on the field, the Pándavas will remain invincible. When Árjuna is finally diverted from the main action of the battle, Yudhi·shthira entrusts Árjuna's son Abhimányu with the task of making a breach in the Káurava formation. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt/synopsis : Jesus clearly and unambiguously told was how to gain salvation, i.e., how get eternal life in YHVH’s kingdom. But unfortunately the Christian Church has set Jesus’ words aside and are teaching and preaching salvation according to what Paul wrote. And what Paul wrote is contrary to what Jesus spoke. So when people trust their salvation to what they hear in their Churches they hear Paul’s words and they are deceived. The Christian Church is nothing like it was when founded by Jesus’ disciples. We read about that pure Apostolic Church in the Book of Acts. That Apostolic Church followed Jesus’ commands and instructions, and keeping the commandments of God and the faith of Jesus. However, over the centuries the Christian Church has changed dramatically, it has mutated in a bad way, having been corrupted and polluted with non-Biblical doctrines and creeds. The Christian Church leaders struggled to remove all traces of Judaism from the Church, and in doing that they removed the faith of Jesus, who was the true Jew. They throw out the baby with the bath water. Today’s Christian Church is far away from the clear reading of YHVH’s Commands and Jesus’ words and instructions. Jesus had many warnings about such deceptions, but people failed to recognize the deceptions and fell for them, hook line and sinker – because those deceptions came from a most unexpected source – their own churches. And now God calls His people to get out of the corrupt religious system, “Come out of her my people”. What is the deception? What is the church corruption and how did it happen? Would God allow corruption to defile His church? How can I make sure it doesn’t happen to me? That, and more, will be explained in this book.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt/synopsis : A young woman flees violence in Mexico and seeks protection in the United States—only to be trafficked as a domestic worker in the Bronx. A decorated immigration judge leaves his post when the policies he proudly upheld capsize in the wake of political turmoil. A Gambian translator who was granted asylum herself talks with other African women about how immigration officers expect victims of torture to behave. A border patrol officer begins to question the training that instructs him to treat the children he finds in the Arizona desert like criminals. Through these and other powerful firsthand accounts, A Story to Save Your Life offers new insight into the harrowing realities of seeking protection in the United States. Sarah C. Bishop argues that cultural differences in communication shape every stage of the asylum process, playing a major but unexamined role. Migrants fleeing persecution must reconstruct the details of their lives so governmental authorities can determine whether their experiences justify protection. However, Bishop shows, many factors influence whether an applicant is perceived as credible, from the effects of trauma on the ability to recount an experience chronologically to culturally rooted nonverbal behaviors and displays of emotion. For asylum seekers, harnessing the power of autobiographical storytelling can mean the difference between life and death. A Story to Save Your Life emphasizes how memory, communication, and culture intertwine in migrants’ search for safety.
