Yet after years of hard work, therapy and friends, she is standing on her own two feet, somewhat comfortable and in control of her own destiny...Or so she thinks. When her boss and good friend of fifteen years chooses to sell the company, it sets Coral's small world spinning, shattering her carefully constructed routine - and places her in the sights of business mogul Tristan Freeman, a man too handsome for his own good...And her new boss. But with the ghosts of the past still haunting her, can Coral finally exorcise these demons, face her darkest fears and allow the irresistible Tristan into her heart? Freed By Him (Book Two) When the past felt too big to bear, Coral Stevens walked away from the burgeoning love between her and Tristan Freeman, handsome mogul - and her new boss. Heartbroken, yet resolute, she feels she has made the right choice...too bad Tristan doesn't. Trusting him may be the hardest thing that Coral has ever done, yet the love that has grown between them cannot be denied - nor can the flammable passion that explodes whenever they touch. Then just when Coral thinks that things can't get any better, danger weaves its way around them...With her happiness and their very lives on the line, how far can she go to protect the one she loves? Forever With Him (Book Three) Coral Stevens had no idea that meeting Tristan Freeman would lead her to challenge every aspect of her life - Including her own mortality. As she begins to recover from her ordeal, she must learn to let go of her need to control, and allow Tristan to take care of her, for he is the one that managed to break down her walls, whilst patiently wearing down the barriers she threw between them - until Coral's heart was firmly caught in his grasp. Now together they must prove to each other, no matter how hard it gets, that they have become intrinsically woven into the web of each other's lives - Forever. Or will fate take over again and play a hand neither one of them can see? Reviews For Darkest Fears Trilogy "I cannot rave about this trilogy enough! It sizzles with longing, intensity and love. Book excerpt/synopsis : A rainy night in London. Shots are fired into a car which swerves on to the pavement, ploughing into a bus stop. It seems that a chilling gang initiation has cost an innocent victim their life. But the reality is far more sinister... One life is wiped out and three more are changed forever: the young man whose finger was on the trigger; an ageing gangster planning a deadly revenge, and the pregnant woman who struggles desperately to uncover the truth. Two weeks away from giving birth, how will she deal with a world where death is an occupational hazard? In a city where violence can be random or meticulously planned, where teenage gangs clash with career criminals and where loyalty is paid for in blood, anything is possible. Secrets are uncovered as fast as bodies, and the story's final twist is as breathtakingly surprising as they come. ________________ The outstanding new Tom Thorne thriller, THEIR LITTLE SECRET, is out now!

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt/synopsis : Wiggling a pencil so that it looks like it is made of rubber, "stealing" your niece's nose, and listening for the sounds of the ocean in a conch shell– these are examples of folk illusions, youthful play forms that trade on perceptual oddities. In this groundbreaking study, K. Brandon Barker and Claiborne Rice argue that these easily overlooked instances of children's folklore offer an important avenue for studying perception and cognition in the contexts of social and embodied development. Folk illusions are traditionalized verbal and/or physical actions that are performed with the intention of creating a phantasm for one or more participants. Using a cross-disciplinary approach that combines the ethnographic methods of folklore with the empirical data of neuroscience, cognitive science, and psychology, Barker and Rice catalogue over eighty discrete folk illusions while exploring the complexities of embodied perception. Taken together as a genre of folklore, folk illusions show that people, starting from a young age, possess an awareness of the illusory tendencies of perceptual processes as well as an awareness that the distinctions between illusion and reality are always communally formed.

Book excerpt/synopsis : Bad luck is the least of their worries… Annabel has never wanted a cat. She certainly didn’t want a secretive, sarcastic black cat who takes over her pillow and makes remarks that no one else ever seems to hear. Despite that, Blackfoot manages to slink into her life like a small, furry shadow. Now Annabel and her friend Peter are being over-run by cats. More and more arrive each day, turning up at the old castle ruins where Annabel and Peter spend most of their time. And some of those cats aren’t as…friendly…as Blackfoot. When someone tries to kill Annabel and a spell goes very badly wrong, they find themselves trapped in the castle ruins, which are now growing back at an alarming rate. Even more alarming is the fact that the person who tried to kill Annabel is rapidly gaining control over the magical ruins. Worst of all, Blackfoot knows more than he’s telling, and what he’s not telling could be enough to get them all killed.

Book excerpt/synopsis : Moving, honest and inspiring – this is a nurse’s true story of life in a busy A&E department during the Covid-19 crisis. Working in A&E is a challenging job but nurse Louise Curtis loves it. She was newly qualified as an advanced clinical practitioner, responsible for life or death decisions about the patients she saw, when the unthinkable happened and the country was hit by the Covid-19 pandemic. The stress on the NHS was huge and for the first time in her life, the job was going to take a toll on Louise herself. In A Nurse’s Story she describes what happened next, as the trickle of Covid patients became a flood. And just as tragically, staff in A&E were faced with the effects of lockdown on society. They worried about their regulars, now missing, and saw an increase in domestic abuse victims and suicide attempts as loneliness hit people hard. By turns heartbreaking and heartwarming, this book shines a light on the compassion and dedication of hospital staff during such dark times. 'An important memoir that we all need to read right now.' – Closer
